Meryl’s Safe Haven was founded to provide shelter to young people aging out of the Department of Children and Families (DCF) care. Meryl, who was Dr. Tasia Cerezo’s aunt, spoke passionately about one day opening a home for young people who had aged out of foster care. She envisioned it as a place they could live and thrive with support from caring staff that provided a sense of community and family. As pre-adoptive parents themselves, co-founders, Dr. Tasia and Marisol Cerezo saw a vision they could actualize in Meryl's memory after her passing in a 2022 car crash. 

 

The shortage of transitional housing for young people, the need for emergency assistance by way of shelter for families in the state of Massachusetts, and over 20 years of experience has provided MSH the opportunity to fill necessary gaps and address growing concerns in the city related to shelter. MSH is prepared to provide shelter to young people between the ages of 18-24 who have decided to transition out of care on a road to self-sustainability, in addition to providing opportunities to housing insecure, economically challenged, families in Worcester, MA. 

 

The team at Meryl's Safe Haven are driven to do their part in making the world a better and equitable place. We have taken part and will continue to take part in a wide range of activities that empower the Worcester community including but not limited to engaging in city discussions that impact the state of homelessness. We strive to build productive relationships and make a positive impact with all of our pursuits.
