Yesterday we officially launched the site! It was great and overwhelming at the same time especially because it mostly took place from my phone while we were vacationing - I know, I should have put work aside.
I was featured as a part of the doctorate program I graduated from and I thought it would be a good opportunity to give folks a bit of insight into the organization if/when they stumbled upon the write up about my journey. Find that article here. Still being at the beginning of the creation of this organization and being able to share information about will not only help others, but allow us to continue to process and reflect as we build relationships and network to make connections in the city.
Folks have shared some great information for the benefit of resources in the ways of grants and foundations - the research is endless and the time needed is as well.
More recently we have reached out to the Economic Development department in the city six days ago, as of today, to get more information about a property we think would be a good location for the shelter; as of today, no response, but we know the squeaky wheel story well.
A couple of things are in our immediate sight:
getting the logo finalized
receiving permissions to solicit
Unlike most non-profits, a shelter needs a place to shelter individuals so solicitation is an important piece of this process. We're continuing on this journey and we're happy to have you with us.
